Quick Fix

Previously when friends ask me in frustrated tone “what do you think about stopping this activity”,  habitually I log on to the “grandfather mode”, and start advising on various aspects. The friend who would derive pleasure on talking negatively more on the subject would drag the conversation to any limit he could.

 

This time, I received a mail from my friend who apparently sounded dejected wrote “what do you think about divorce ?”.

 

My mind alerted me not to log on to the “grandfather mode”.

 

I replied back “what is there to think about ?”.

 

After that, there were mails from my friend but not on the divorce subject.

Average State of Mind

On an average, I am able to maintain 8.5 as my State. Just before I goto sleep, I am maintaining a state of almost 10 because of why I am not able to sleep immediately. May be I used to reduce my state to 5 or so, and then sleep.

 

I am able to do this, because I am able to diffuse stress easily. I see the stress a stuffy cloud before me, seeking my attention. If I feel the stress, I immediately move this cloud few feet away from me. Most of the time the low priority works create stress and steal our energy too. For example, today after coming to office (Monday morning), I remembered Citibank, Airtel, Dishnet, and Whirlpool still have some of my complaints open and havent come back on that. They are of low priority. They are not worth handling this Monday morning. I immediately procrastinated telling myself “anyway I can take care of them leisure”; as I do this I also visualize the cloud is several feet away – they look powerless, less significant, and not rain-bearing !!!

 

That’s my secret of maintaining 8.5

 

My work load doesn’t take me to state 10; but my other personal interests take me to 10 most of the time.

Dad's internal map

Today there was a delivery person from PVR theatre for the movie we were planning to go for the 12.30 show. The moment I said,"the ticket person has come", my dad who was in his room told "ask him to adjust the channel". Though I didnt understand what he meant for a moment, I could quickly understand he linked theatre with TV channels. He mistook the person to be the cable operator. Thats from his internal mapping.

Installing new habits

It takes 21 days of consistent practice to install a habit. But it will be positively effective, if the habit is preceded by a reframing. Also, answer enough "Why" before the habit is identified for installation.
